Norfolk Deer & Wild Venison Strategy – a role for EO?

The opportunity to use Earth Observational technology for all manner of purposes is super exciting. We’ve recently been trying to understand if there is an opportunity to see deer tracks using this technology. The following is an insight into why this could be important and a plea for support from our friends at Norfolk FWAG.

On behalf of the Norfolk FWAG team, and the Trustee Board.

Following feedback our members, alongside projects working with the likes of the Broads Authority, we are happy to release the crowdfunding page for the creation of a Norfolk Deer & Wild Venison Strategy. The page is now live, and we are gratefully accepting donations: Crowdfund Page Here

We are all aware of the impact that deer are having on our farmed landscape, with significant damage to habitats and crops alike. The Norfolk Deer & Wild Venison Strategy will see us contracting a deer management expert to:

Work with groups of farmers, deer managers, and stakeholders across Norfolk to improve the coordination of deer management.
Develop local infrastructure plans to support effective venison processing, and assist with funding applications for additional funding from Farming in Protected Landscape, Countryside Stewardship and licences.
Review routes to market and engage with the supply chain to bring high-quality Norfolk venison to local markets, via a clear and reputable brand.
Host public events to raise awareness about the importance of deer management, and provide education on cooking and enjoying venison.

We are not necessarily re-inventing the wheel. Simply facilitating how we can better work together. We are seeking donations to help us reach our target of £10,000, to then be matched by Norfolk County Council as part of their crowdfunding initiative. – Donations can also be made anonymously.
